A 'Tall Texas Tale' Topic for April 7 Water@USU Seminar

Water@USU, a Utah State University Water Initiative project, welcomes biologist Ray Drenner of Texas Christian University as featured speaker for the group’s Tuesday, April 7, seminar. Drenner presents “A Texas Tale of Dirty Coal and Mercury-Contaminated Fish” at 4 p.m. in the Biology-Natural Resources Building, room 102. His talk is free and open to all. 

Drenner serves as professor and department chair in TCU’s Department of Biology. His research focuses on the effects of fish on the community structure of lakes. In recent projects, he’s worked on development of a periphyton-fish water treatment system for removal of contaminants from polluted water and is studying mercury contamination in fish from Texas reservoirs.
 
Upcoming Water@USU Seminar speakers include geomorphologist John Buffington of the U.S. Forest Service’s Boise Aquatic Sciences Lab April 14, and geologist David Rubin of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Pacific Science Center April 21. The seminars, free and open to all, are held at 4 p.m. in BNR 102.
 
Water@USU is an interdisciplinary collaboration of the university’s Utah Water Research Laboratory, the colleges of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences, Natural Resources, Science, Engineering, Agriculture and the Huntsman School of Business. Established in 2003, the initiative fosters collegial sharing of water-related research and ideas throughout campus and the community.
