A Horse Is A Horse, Of Course

Getting along with horses requires understanding their natural behavior, says USU equine specialist Patricia Evans. Horses evolved as prey animals, so they're wary of predators - including humans. Evans recommends approaching horses in a relaxed manner and avoiding direct eye contact. Speak softly and avoid sudden movements that will startle the animal.
