A Fungus Among Us
Anthracnose is a fungal disease that attacks trees during cool, wet springs. Despite its intimidating name, the condition rarely kills trees, says USU Extension horticulturist Jerry Goodspeed. Species vulnerable to the fungus, which appears as small water-soaked lesions on leaves, include maple, sycamore, oak and ash. Time and patience are the best treatment, as trees typically recover with dryer, hotter weather.
