A-Day 2006 -- "Aggie Round Up"

The theme for Utah State University’s A-Day 2006 is “Aggie Round Up,” and all proceeds from the week of activities, April 17-21, go to the Cache Valley American Red Cross.

“We have been working since the beginning of fall semester to plan and organize all of the events for the week,” said Kyle Kimbal, Student Alumni Association A-Day chair. “We encourage everyone to come and support a good cause.”

The week of events starts Monday with A-Day Kick Off at the David B. Haight Alumni Center from 6-8 p.m. Walking tacos will be served for $1.

“The A-Day Kick Off will help everyone learn about the week’s events and have a good time eating together,” said Kimbal.

Tuesday night is Battle of the Bands at the Taggart Student Center Ballroom from 8:30-11 p.m. The cost is $3. A number of bands will be featured, including: Anesty, Eratic Erotica, Hasonphefer & Bomdiggity, Johnny Most, Control Theory and Viewers Like You. Also Tuesday night is the Top of the ‘A’ 5K Fun Run. Registration and check-in starts at 10:30 p.m. at the HPER. The $5 entry fee includes a T-shirt, and the race starts at midnight.

Wednesday is Lunch for the Bunch on the TSC Patio at 11:30 a.m. Eat pizza and breadsticks for $1. The event is co-sponsored with LDSSA.

Also April 19 from 7-10 p.m. is Senior Celebration in the TSC Sunburst Lounge. Activities are free for graduating seniors and $5 for other USU students. Tickets are available at the door.

“This is where we recognize our seniors and send them out into the real world, with prizes and Aggie gear,” said Darby Cowles, SAA president.

Thursday is Comedy Night with “Laughing Stock” in the Skyroom from 8-10 p.m. For $3, students can enjoy good laughs and chips n’ salsa.

Friday is the Day on the Quad from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., with a variety of activities for everyone. Activities include booths, inflatable games, live bands, a service project and food.

A Jon Schmidt concert is Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Kent Concert Hall. Tickets are available at Haight Alumni Center, USU Ticket Office and Lee’s Marketplace. Admission is $5 for students and $9 for others.

At midnight on Friday is True Aggie Night on the “A.”

“We will pass out free Lip Notes USU True Aggie chap stick, for those who become True Aggies,” said Kimball.

True Aggie night is a USU tradition where students stand on the cement “A” and can kiss someone to become a True Aggie, he said.

“A-Day is a week dedicated to service and raising money to better the community and campus and to create loyal bonds to the university,” said Cowles.
