About This Minor

The Hunger and Food Security Studies minor in the S.J. & Jessie E. Quinney College of Agriculture & Natural Resources equips students with a broad understanding of the complexity of hunger and the various programs, policies, and environmental changes that can reduce this significant social issue.

This minor is available to all undergraduate majors, but it particularly complements degrees in Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences; Plant Science or Crop Science; Environmental Science or Environmental Studies; Sustainable Food Systems; and Agricultural Economics or Agribusiness.

What You Will Learn

Students will explore issues related to food, nutrition, and health; history, sociology, and anthropology; resources, climate, and sustainability; and geography and the environment.

The curriculum includes courses on hunger issues and solutions, community nutrition, medical anthropology, environmental history, natural resources and society, aquaponic systems, and geographic information sciences, among others.
